YPS ALUMNI

 

The Young Performers Studio opened in Seattle in 1991 and conducted it's first summer program in L.A. in 1996. Many very successful young actors have trained or continue to train at YPS. These include:

 

NATHAN KRESS, series regular on the Nickelodeon series,"iCarly". Nathan

attended summer boot camp in 2004 and has appeared in numerous TV shows such as "House", "Without a Trace",  "Suite Life",  "Drake & Josh",

and has an extensive list of voiceover credits including the Nick series "Shuriken School"

 

DAVID HENRIE who booked two national commercials within a month of completing his first boot camp  in 1998 and went on to star in several TV series, currently seen in the lead role of Disney's new series, "Wizards of Waverly Place"

 

AUSTIN, TANNER, and DESTINY WHITLOCK left Georgia in 2004 , completed a boot camp and were all booking commercials and TV within a month or two.

These three actors now juggle busy lives in Los Angeles with public school,  baseball , gymnastics  and the filming of over 50 commercials, numerous film and TV roles. Bookings include guest star roles on "Cold Case", "Ghost Whisperer",  "House",  "CSI: N.Y.", and other shows as well as recurring roles on "October Road" for Tanner and Destiny in 2007 and 2008. Destiny starred in "TOOTH FAIRY " in 2010 and brother Tanner  has  a recurring  role on CSI:Miami and will be seen in July in the Adam Sandler-Kevin James movie, "The Zookeeper".

 

BRITT FLATMO, from Seattle, attended her first YPS boot camp in July 2007. In the past 3 years she has filmed numerous commercials, "Without a Trace" and "Medium",   portrayed Barbara Walters in "Lil View" sketch comedy and had leads or supporting leads in three films, "ABUELO", "NIC & TRISTAN GO MEGA DEGA" and  "Life As We Know It" with Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel . BRITT will be seen in summer 2011 in the J J Abrams/Steven Spielberg blockbuster film, "Super 8" and  has been cast in two additional films for 2011.

 

SAMMI HANRATTY, native of Arizona, began a career locally there and booked commercials in L.A. before training actively at YPS  in L.A. from 2003 to 2005 and developing a very solid TV and film career. Credits include many Nick and Disney show appearances, a recurring role on "The Unit" along with her sister Danielle, and a recurring role on "Suite Life" as well as numerous films including "Jack & the Beanstalk", "Hero Wanted", " Magic" and the 2009  Zemeckis film version of "The Christmas Carol". She starred as "Chrissy" an AMERICAN GIRL film.

 

JOY LAUREN attended a YPS 2000 workshop in Atlanta at age 10 and soon found her way to L.A. where she became very successful,  appearing in numerous  commercials and TV series, most notably as Danielle, the daughter of Bree in "Desperate Housewives" and now attends Columbia University in New York.

 

CARTER JENKINS came from Florida for Boot Camp 2002  and has had considerable success after a very strong start through YPS, appearing on numerous TV shows  since early 2003. He booked his first pilot in 2005 although the series was not aired. He has been a series regular in two subsequent series and varied film roles, most recently "Aliens in the Attic" and "Valentine's Day".

 

 

 

Other alumni include:

 

AMY BRUCKNER was one of the youngest YPS boot campers at age 10 in the summer of 2001 and is best known as Pim in the Disney series "Phil of the Future" which cast in early 2004.  Feature film credits include "Nancy Drew" and "Rebound" .

 

ALYSON & A. J.  MICHALKA  got their start in Seattle but didn't attend YPS classes until they had already been in L.A. for a year or two.  ALYSON was literally discovered in a YPS showcase by a Disney Channel executive and was brought in along with seven other YPSers from the showcase for roles in the Disney series. "Phil of the Future."  Alyson spent the next three years as "Keely" and developed a singing career with little sis , A.J.  In the film, "Super 8",  A J plays the older sister of other YPSer, BRITT FLATMO.

 

KAY PANABAKER was another lucky YPSer seen at the YPS showcase and brought in for"Phil of the Future",  acquiring the role of Debbie before

joining the cast of  the WB series, "Summerland" and appearing in numerous TV and film roles. She'was in the TV series called "Zip " and starred in the re-make of "Fame" that hit theatres in fall 2009, can currently been seen on Tuesday nights on ABC's "No Ordinary Family".

 

DANIELLE PANABAKER actively trained with YPS in 2003-2005 and has become one of the finest young actresses in TV and film today. She has worked with many great film stars such as Ed Harris, Paul Newman, Helen Hunt, Kevin Costner, and most recently as daughter of James Woods on the TV series, "Shark".  She also graduated at age 19 from UCLA!

 

 

DAVEIGH CHASE got started at YPS in Seattle at age 5 and made her first trip to L.A. in the summer of 1996.  She is best known for her roles in "The Ring", "Donnie Darko" and as the voice of "Lilo" and as a series regular in the TV series, "BIG LOVE". Another Pacific Northwester who started out with YPS is Mark L. Young, also on the series "BIG LOVE"

 

Two 1998 boot campers were TRAVIS TEDFORD  who is best known for Welch's grape juice commericals and as  Spanky in "The Lil Rascals" and SCARLETT POMERS best known as Reba's daughter on the popular sitcom as well as memorable film roles in "Happy Texas" , "Babysitters Club" and "Ring of Endless Light".

 

ELIZABETH RICE, originally from Arkansas , attended 2001 summer boot camp and booked "Crossing Jordan" her first season in L.A. and proceeding to book roles on many TV series as well as playing the coveted role of Natalie Wood as a teen in the film, "Mystery of Natalie Wood".

 

HUNTER PARRISH, cast member of the TV series "Weeds", attended a YPS workshop in Dallas in 2003 and soon came to L.A. where he had almost immediate success after his first boot camp, booking first a role on "The Guardian" with A.J. Michalka and then the feature film, "Sleepover" as well as a pilot with Little Bow Wow which did not air. Hunter has also appeared as a guest star in numerous TV shows such as Law & Order, Close to Home, CSI and Summerland with Kay Panabaker as well as feature films, including "Freedom Writers " with Hilary Swank and most recently playing son of Meryl Streep in "It's Complicated".

 

CHARITY SANOY got started at age 8 at YPS in Seattle and with a few months of active training there made her first trip to L.A. in September 1995 and proceeded to book an $87,000 McDonalds commercial her first week in L.A. She earned a 6-figure income each year for the next few years and "retired" before age 12 to pursue her education and a singing career.

 

Additional actors whose training at YPS has contributed to their success in the industry are Josh Duhon, Lexi Ainsworth, Connor Ross, Aaron Sanders, Emma and Hannah Nicolas, Amanda Gallo, Scout Taylor-Compton, Corina Boettger,  Kaylin  and Riley Stewart,  Sebastian Rockefeller, Hayley Kiyoko, Donis Leonard, Kiev Rhyse, Molly Jackson, Anissa Davis and many more who are on their way to becoming the stars of tomorrow.

YOUNG PERFORMERS HOLLYWOOD BOOT CAMP

~ Summer 2012 ~

The YOUNG PERFORMERS STUDIO provides an opportunity for young actors, ages 11 to 18, to live, train, and audition in Los Angeles, the heart of the film and TV  industry. This program is directed by Donnajeanne Goheen, a well-respected talent manager  who has been featured in numerous publications and in two E! Network documentaries about kids in show business.  Many former boot campers are successfully working in the TV-film industry today!

Our Summer Residential Program provides the following:

Share a dorm room on the CSUN college campus with other actors, two to four teens per room.  Group size is limited to 36 campers per session.

Attend a comprehensive and intensive "boot camp" training program with classes in on-camera technique, improv, character dynamics, scene study and TV/film audition skills.    
 (60-80 hours training)

Participate in on-going self-assessment and develop an understanding of the "business of the business" as well as the demands of an acting career.

Professional photo shoot & printing of headshots that give actors a competitive edge.

Audition opportunities and showcases for agents & casting professionals.

Attend live taping of a TV show and/or work as an extra in TV or film.

Social and recreation activities to complete a summer of learning and fun!
 Activities can include Universal Studios,Knott's Berry Farm, and Santa Monica Beach!

Written evaluation and action plan for each camper!

BOOT CAMP 2004

Many of these boot campers found considerable success after boot camp-- with co-star or guest star appearances in TV shows such as Gilmore Girls, E R , Criminal Minds, Without a Trace,numerous Disney and Nickelodoen shows,recurring roles in soap operas like GENERAL HOSPITAL and PASSIONS,recurring roles on THE UNIT,  feature films such as "Akeelah & the Bee", "Scooby Doo", "Wild Child" , "The Santa Clause", and many, many commercials!

 

 

 

YPS BOOT CAMP GOALS

 

 

GOAL:   To provide an opportunity for young actors to be professionally trained and considered for agency representation in Los Angeles

 

Objectives:

 Enroll children and teens in the boot camp based on their previous experience and/or recommendations from hometown agents, teachers, theatre directors,etc

 

Enable these young actors to refine their acting and auditioning skills through an intensive training experience

 

Enable these young actors to develop an understanding of what is required

for competing in a very competitive industry

 

Acquaint these young actors and their parents with local community and entertainment industry resources

 

Provide access to affordable photography and design of professional resume that meets L.A. industry standards

 

Inform young actors and their parents about the casting process, tips for audition success, working effectively with agents and managers

 

Enable these young actors to develop monologues and scenes to be performed in a showcase for L.A. agents or casting professionals

 

Provide written feedback on strengths and weaknesses of each performer with specific suggestions for further development

 

Facilitate the young actors extended stay during summer and/or return to L.A. for upcoming pilot  or episodic seasons
